PSYCHOLOGIST FOR ADOLESCENTS

At The Psychology Clinic: Take a Step, we support adolescents who are going through developmental crises, strengthening their emotional and social competences such as: assertiveness, resistance to stress, communicativeness, problem-solving skills. We also support adolescents in building adequate self-esteem. We help in resolving family or peer conflicts. We support adolescents in difficult moments for them.

We do this by listening and offering them time, attention, understanding and acceptance.

Some teenagers may find it hard to receive this in relationships with others.

While supporting young people, we also support parents so that it is easier for them to understand their own child.

Adolescence is a difficult time, so if you are concerned about any of the following in your child:

  • Depressed mood that you have been observing in your teenager for at least two weeks,
  • Psychosomatic symptoms (physical symptoms which may have a psychological or emotional cause such as headaches, stomachaches, nausea),
  • Withdrawal from peer relationships,
  • Giving up favourite activities,
  • Deterioration of school performance, school difficulties or a complete lack of interest in continuing education,
  • Lowered self-esteem (such as feeling “I’m useless”, “I’m hopeless”) or feelings of guilt (“it’s all because of me”),
  • Depression (e.g. as a result of lack of acceptance in the peer group),
  • Appetite changes, anorexia and bulimia, obesity,
  • Reaching for stimulants (alcohol, cigarettes/vaping, drugs),
  • Behavioural disorders such as aggressiveness, impulsiveness,
  • Anxiety disorders, e.g. social anxiety,
  • Dependence on electronic devices and psychoactive substances (including alcohol),
  • Sexual Orientation Concerns.
  • ADHD, ASD, ODD

Successfully helping teenagers with their difficulties works well when parents are part of the process. Our work to help young people begins with a consultation with parents. This takes 90 minutes.

The next step is a 50-minute session with a young person.
